Colombian market for U.S. poultry and egg product exports

Date

The USDA and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative have reopened the Colombian market for U.S. poultry and egg product exports following several months of collaborations to lift the trade barrier. According to USDA Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Lester Moffitt, “Reopening this market was of critical importance to U.S. poultry producers and to USDA,”

The market was closed in August 2023 due to concerns over Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in the region. Before the market was shut down Colombia was the 10th largest market for U.S. poultry, with exports reaching $105 million in 2022. Ohio is one of the largest egg farming and poultry producing states in the country.
