USDA Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production

Dr. Dewayne Goldmon, Senior Advisor on racial justice and equality to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently visited two urban farms in northern Ohio. He made stops at Thomas Jackson’s urban farm in Toldeo and Jo Anna House II Ministry and GodRich Farms in Akron to meet with urban producers directly and discuss ways to support a stronger food system.

“The urban agriculture operations I visited in Toledo and Akron play a critical role in their communities,” said Dr. Dewayne Goldmon. “They provide healthy, locally grown food for their communities, improve the physical and mental health of residents, promote agriculture as a viable profession for youth, and support a stronger, more resilient food system in Ohio and nationwide. I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from Ohio urban producers and highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to supporting urban agriculture and producers like them.”

The USDA Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production is inviting urban producers, innovative producers, and the public to virtually attend a public meeting of the Federal Advisory Committee for Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production in July.  To find out more about the meeting log on to
